Return to Middle-earth and experience a timeless tale's grand beginning! Set out from The Shire with Bilbo, Gandalf, and their company of Dwarves in pursuit of fortune, adventure, and the dreadful Dragon Smaug. Amass and recruit your armies in the shadow of The Lonely Mountain, then battle it out to claim the treasures of Erebor!
Prerelease is a great opportunity to get your hands on the newest Magic: The Gathering release and explore what the set has to offer. Prerelease Packs contain everything a player needs to be guided through deckbuilding and begin facing off in epic one-on-one matches.
Usually players come together and join a prerelease in store, but we understand that doesn't work for everyone. For folks who can't make it out to one of those events, we offer the "Prerelease At Home" option!
Get together with some friends, challenge your aunt and uncle, or simply crack a pack on your own to hone your deckbuilding skills - this is your chance to enjoy the prerelease however you want, whenever you want.
Are there prizes for this event?
Absolutely! Players who register for the event in the Magic Companion App, will receive an additional two (2) Magic: The Gathering® | The Hobbit™ Play Boosters. Once you have purchased your ticket, you will be emailed a code to enter into the Magic Companion App along with instructions on how to complete the process. Registration in the app must occur prior to picking up their prerelease kit, or by no later than 9:00pm on Thursday, August 13th, 2026.*
Prerelease At Home Kits can be picked up in store starting 11am Friday, August 7, 2026
What is in a Prerelease Pack?
- 6 Magic: The Gathering® | The Hobbit™ Play Boosters
- Each Play Booster contains 14 Magic: The Gathering cards
- May contain these cards: HOB 1–248
- Includes 1–3 cards of rarity Rare or higher (2: 26%; 3: 2%)
- 3–5 Uncommon
- 7–9 Common
- 1 land card
- 1 card of any rarity is traditional foil
- Foil borderless rare/mythic rare in <1% of boosters
- Traditional foil land replaces a land in 20% of boosters
- Each Play Booster contains 14 Magic: The Gathering cards
- 1 traditional foil rare/mythic rare card
- Spindown™ life counter
*Please be advised that entry into the "Prerelease At Home" event in the Magic Companion App is mandatory in order to receive the two prize Play Booster packs.
