“Welcome to Strixhaven: College of Mages. I’m sure we all have a bit of first day jitters, but I assure you, you will catch on quick. For some of you, this may be your first time attending our most prestigious University of the Mythical Arts. Others may well be familiar with our teachings and abilities. The start-of-term celebration will begin shortly, but before you take your seats, you must be sorted into your Colleges.
The five Colleges are:
Silverquill wield the magic of words, from inspiring battle poetry to biting arcane insults. Stylish, intimidating, and tirelessly competitive, these mages are born leaders with a razor-sharp wit and natural charisma that can be used for good or for ill.
Prismari are the theater kids of Strixhaven and magic is how they express themselves. Their spells can be spectacles of raw creativity or meticulous artistic expressions. All the world’s a stage, and whether their art is informed by mind or emotion, Prismari always leave a lasting impression.
Witherbloom are goth bio majors. They draw power from the essence of living beings, whether that means enhancing nature or exploiting it. Witherbloom mages are most at home riding zombie crocs, picking herbs for potions, and hanging out in their swamp making grim jokes.
Lorehold diligent researchers and daring adventurers. Passionate scholars obsessed with history, they explore the past by pouring over artifacts and summoning long-dead spirits. For some students, the past is a tapestry worthy of disciplined study. While others wear that tapestry like a cape as they jump down into a forgotten tomb.
Quandrix are ingenious math magicians. They study patterns, fractals, and symmetries to command power over the fundamental forces of nature. They’ll solve a Rubik’s Cube while contemplating the metaphysical properties of the universe and can recite every number of Pi backwards.
I’m sure each of you will be a credit to whichever College becomes yours.”
Hey Everyone, Katie here!
We’re so excited to introduce you all to the newest magic set, Strixhaven School of Mages! Much like Guilds of Ravnica and Ravnica Allegiance had Guilds, Strixhaven has Colleges. There are 5 Colleges, each one consisting of 2 color combinations. Silverquill is Black and White, Prismari is Red and Blue, Witherbloom is Green and Black, Lorehold is Red and White, and Quandrix is Blue and Green.

Still with me? Excellent, let’s carry on to what Prerelease will look like.
Prerelease and A Muse N Games
A year later, and we’re still in the land of Pandemic times. Our contact with others outside of our personal bubbles is limited to text, calls, emails, and the lost art of letter writing. Much like the Professors at Strixhaven, even with all the knowledge that we have, it’s easy to lose sight of how we can stay connected when we’re wrapped up in our own problems.
Prerelease week is a great way to connect with others. You can purchase prerelease kits or Commander Decks to prerelease at home. Grab your family or get together with your “bubble” and build your limited deck.
Or, to create a more realistic prerelease weekend experience, why not get a group of friends together and play online with Spelltable, https://www.spelltable.com/. Don’t have a webcam? No problem! You can make one yourself at home with your cell phone, a cardboard box and some tape or with some bundle boxes and deck boxes. Just take a look at the following links that have some easy, step by step instructions on how.
We will have single prerelease kits and, once again, we are happy to offer our Buy 5 Get The 6th Prerelease free. Each prerelease kit purchased comes with 2 Strixhaven Draft Boosters as prizing.
Prerelease kits contain:
- 5 draft boosters
- 1 College Specific seeded booster pack
- 1 foil promo-stamped rare or mythic rare from Strixhaven School of Mages
- 1 Spindown life counter
- 1 MTG Arena code card
Available for preorder now.
Prerelease kits are available for Pickup Friday, April 16th and we continue to offer city wide delivery.
What’s Inside Each Strixhaven Product?
Wizards has made changes to some of our favorite products in the Magic lineup. What are they? Well let’s take a look…
Draft Boosters are perfect for the traditional Draft or Sealed experience.
A box of Draft Boosters contains 36 packs of Strixhaven and each box will come with the extended alt-art Dragonsguard Elite Buy a Box Promo (while supplies last). While you will find the Dragonsguard Elite in other Strixhaven products, the extended alt-art treatment is unique to this promotion.
Each pack contains 1 Mystical Archive card (Uncommon, Rare, or Mythic Rare), 1 Lesson card (Common, Rare, or Mythic Rare), 1 Rare or Mythic Rare, 3 Uncommons, and 9 Commons. A traditional foil card of any rarity replaces a Common in 33 percent of Strixhaven Draft Boosters, and a traditional foil Mystical Archive Mythic Rare can be found in less than 1 percent of packs.
If you’re not looking to draft and just want the satisfaction of opening packs, Set Boosters are the product for you! Each booster contains at least one Rare or Mythic (maybe more!), a guaranteed foil, and an art card. You might also pull an exciting card from Magic‘s history!
Each Set Booster box contains 30 packs and each pack contains 12 Magic cards, including 1 Mystical Archive card (Uncommon, Rare, or Mythic Rare), 1 Lesson card (Common, Uncommon, Rare, or Mythic Rare), 1 Rare or Mythic Rare, 1 foil of any rarity, 1 Wild Card of any rarity, 6 assorted Commons or Uncommons that are thematically connected (with Commons connected to other Commons and Uncommons connected to other Uncommons), and 1 Land card—plus 1 Art Card and 1 Ad/Token or special card from Magic‘s history (a card from “The List”). A foil-stamped Signature Art Card replaces the Art Card in 5 percent of Set Boosters, and a card from The List replaces the Ad/Token in 25 percent of Set Boosters.
As well, each Set Booster Box comes with the Dragonsguard Elite Buy a Box Promo, while supplies last.
Set Booster Boxes are now available for preorder and can be picked up beginning Friday, April 16th.
Set Booster Packs are also available for preorder now, and can be picked up beginning Friday, April 23rd.
*internally screaming* I may be just a little excited for the Collector Boosters this time around. I’ve always enjoyed opening these in past sets, the art is never a disappointment. All those shinies. And the extended art? So pretty.
Each Strixhaven: School of Mages Collector Booster Box comes with the Dragonsguard Elite Buy a Box Promo (while supplies last) and contains 12 packs. Each Collector Booster contains 15 Magic cards and 1 foil double-sided token, with a combination of 5–6 Rare or Mythic Rare cards, 4–5 Uncommons, and 5–6 Commons (2 foil etched cards, 11 traditional foils, and 2 nonfoils).
Every Strixhaven Collector Booster contains a total of 6 cards with special alt-frame treatments, including 1–3 Extended Art cards, 0–2 Borderless cards, and 3–4 Mystical Archive cards (2 foil etched and 1–2 traditional foils, with 1–3 Japanese alt-art variants). One foil etched Mystical Archive Rare, Mythic Rare, or Uncommon is always a foil etched Japanese alt-art Mystical Archive card.
Now I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m still on the hunt for that Japanese alt-art Lilianna, Dreadhorde General from War of the Spark. Be right back, gotta preorder my Collector Booster Box so I can begin my hunt for that Japanese alt-art Lightning Bolt.
You can also preorder individual Collector Boosters and pick them up on Friday, April 23rd.
Theme Boosters are a great way to explore a single theme in Magic. Just add lands for a dual-color, college-themed deck, or customize a pre-built deck with proven powerful combos.
Each pack contains 35 Magic cards based around a single college:
- Silverquill (Black and White)
- Prismari (Red and Blue)
- Witherbloom (Green and Black)
- Lorehold (Red and White)
- Quandrix (Blue and Green)
Theme Boosters are available for preorder now, and can be picked up beginning Friday, April 23rd.
A Bundle is the most giftable Magic product with a mix of Draft Boosters, lands, a card storage box, an oversized Spindown. It’s a great way to kickstart a collection.
The Strixhaven Bundle contains ten Strixhaven Draft Booster Packs, two land packs with forty basic lands from the Strixhaven setting (20 in foil and 20 nonfoil), 1 foil alt-art promo card, 1 oversized Spindown life counter, 1 card storage box, and 2 reference cards.
Available for preorder now, and pick up begins on Friday, April 23rd.
Fans will join their fellow students in the college of their choice and join the battle between schools with a Strixhaven Commander deck.
Like Strixhaven Prerelease Packs, Strixhaven Commander Decks come in five different versions based on the colleges of Strixhaven.
- Silverquill Statement
- Prismari Performance
- Witherbloom Witchcraft
- Lorehold Legacies
- Quantum Quandrix
Each Strixhaven Commander Deck set includes 1 ready-to-play deck of 100 Magic cards (2 foil, 98 nonfoil), 1 foil etched Display Commander, 10 double-sided tokens, 1 life tracker, 1 deck box (can hold 100 sleeved cards), and 1 reference card, all in reduced-plastic packaging.
You can snag a preorder for full sets containing all 5 commander decks now! Pick up begins on Friday, April 23rd. Individual decks are not currently available for preorder but limited quantities of the individual decks will be available prerelease week as part of open dueling and on release day Friday, April 23rd.
